Living in the modern time of the 21st century is both a gift and a curse. The Internet indeed makes the world one better place. Now it is easier to learn a new skill, to “walk” around a new town, or to purchase goods online, without even getting up from the couch. However, the risk of catfish websites, hacker attacks, and many other undesirable dangers are growing in direct proportion to the given opportunities from the online world.
3D Secure 2.0 – the next generation of online security
We, iCard, are glad to introduce to you 3D Secure 2.0 – the next generation of online payments security.
3D Secure 2.0 (3DS2) is the latest security protocol applied for free to every iCard cardholder, whenever he/she wants to pay online. It ensures a secure checkout, by keeping the payments compliant with Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements. This extra security process protects you and your finances from a third party attempting to misuse your card details online. It is not needed for you to apply for it, however, you can’t cancel 3DS.
What are the differences between the first version of 3D Secure and the upgraded 2nd version?
All the clients who have used iCard to pay online, where the merchant’s website requires 3DS protocol, know that to complete an online payment, they had to enter a six digits code, received via SMS, in the browser. That was the old process – 3D Secure 1.0.
Now, with 3DS2 once you get to the endpoint of your purchase, an additional window, generated by iCard, will load in your browser. You will receive a push notification from the iCard app on your mobile device. Then, you will have to approve the transaction in the app, to confirm the payment.
Another new feature coming with 3D Secure 2.0 is the possibility to confirm a payment whenever your mobile device is not connected to the Internet. Now, you will be able to use in-app tokens that are generated specifically for your account. Once again you will have to access your iCard app, to get to your tokens.
As long as your passcode for your iCard Digital Waller is a secret, no one will be able to use your card without your permission.
How to confirm a transaction with the new 3D Secure 2.0?
If you have found online the perfect shoes for the 2021 spring season and you have selected to pay for them with one of your iCard cards – iCard Visa debit card / Virtual card / iCard Visa Infinite / iCard Metal. After clicking on the “Purchase now” button, your browser will load a page, generated by iCard. Thereafter you will receive a push notification from the iCard Digital Wallet app on your mobile device. Then you will have to:
- Open the notification by tapping anywhere on it. There you will see more details about the transaction – the amount, the merchant, date and time, and the last four digits of the card you want to use;
- Confirm or decline the transaction;
- Enter your passcode or use your fingerprint to confirm the transaction.
What if you are in a cafe with your laptop connected to a public Wi-Fi spot and you like a gift for your mother’s birthday online. Your computer may have a VPN, antivirus software and many other protections against hackers, meanwhile, your phone is out of mobile data and you don’t want to risk getting hacked by connecting it to the unprotected Wi-Fi spot.
Then, in the newly generated window from iCard, you will have to click on “I didn’t receive a push notification in my app.” and follow the given instructions.
It is simple, no?
What problems may occur with 3D Secure 2.0 while paying with an iCard card?
There are a few issues that may take place while making payment online with one of your iCard cards. For example, you may not receive a notification from the iCard app on your mobile device. If this is the case, the issue might be:
- The mobile device’s Internet connection. Please, check if it is connected via Wi-Fi or mobile data;
- Your phone’s push notifications from the iCard app. They might be disabled from the phone’s settings.
- iCard Digital Wallet is not installed on your mobile device. Please, check if the app is installed and updated to the latest version.
If you still can’t see the push-notifications, then you will have to click on the “I didn’t receive a push notification in my app.” link on the loaded page in your browser. Then you follow the given steps.
Another problem might be a not processed transaction. The reason for this may be:
- Insufficient balance in the selected account;
- You have reached your payment limit;
- The card you want to pay with has not been activated, its validity has expired or it has been frozen;
- The entered authentication code was incorrect (in case you tried to verify a payment offline);
- The payment confirmation session (15 minutes) has expired.
You will be notified of the reason why your payment has been denied.
