For those of you who don’t know what QR codes are – QR codes are those square black-white patterns. They usually give you a URL to follow, more information about the brand or provide other function when scanned with your phone’s camera or a special app. QR codes are not new and they can be really convenient in certain situations.
Everyone who has an iCard digital wallet account on Starter or Entry plans can now collect E-payments – face-to-face – without a POS terminal, from fully verified iCard users with Standard accounts. This is perfect for people who don’t know each other’s phone numbers, which is the usual way to connect with other iCard users in the chat or to make instant cashless payments.
We made QR code payments possible to give you the most comprehensive, yet easy to use electronic payments available on your mobile phone!
Who should use QR payments?
QR payments are perfect for face-to-face sales or payments.
What do you sell? Shoes, used tools, car parts … handyman services?
For example, when you organize a garage sale or post classified ads for your used items, you can warn buyers that you want to get paid with iCard.
iCard is very convenient because people can turn ready to pay you on the spot, even if they don’t have iCard yet. How? They can download the app and open a “Starter” account online in less than a minute and fund their wallet with a debit or credit card. You can expect a wallet loading limit of 100 Euro when using unverified card to fund your iCard.
It’s becoming easier to find other users of the app and other uses of the QR payment technology – like paying each other for small things or splitting bills with friends.
How do iCard’s QR payments work?
Face-to-face cash payments now have an alternative.
With iCard’s QR codes, you can collect all sorts of non-commercial payments when you are among people – for birthday fundraisers, events or causes.
You can pay someone by scanning a QR code (Standard plan) or you can get paid by generating one directly via the home screen in iCard (Entry and Standard plans). You can set the amount you want to get when someone scans your barcode. You can also choose to not define any amount. This way the payee sending you the money can choose how much you get.
QR code payments were designed to allow transactions by people who are iCard users but don’t have each other’s phone numbers saved in their devices.
Using QR codes for payments is convenient even for friends splitting bills and paying each other.
Here is how it might work out for you.
You go out with friends and usually one of three things happen:
- One person pays everything and then others need to hand him or her money
- One person pays everything and insists it’s their treat
- People chip in money toward their consumption and pay the total
With iCard (and for situations like 1 & 3 above):
1 – You and your 2 girlfriends go out for a manicure. It’s nice and relaxing. You say you can help make it easier with just 1 payment for all 3 of you. You head out and next time, or on the spot, you can show your QR code to your friends with a specific money amount requested and they can quickly scan with the iCard app and confirm the payment with a tap.
3 – You and 3 friends of yours end up eating and drinking in a local sports bar and your bill is let’s say 200.00 Euro. You show your 3 friends – 3 separate 50.00 Euro QR codes. Each of them scans and confirms a 50.00 Euro payment to your iCard wallet. Next, you tap & pay the total 200.00 Euro for the night with your phone at a contactless terminal.
Are QR payments secure?
Yes, of course! Your QR payments with iCard are as secure as any other payment you can do with your digital wallet.
Once generated, a QR code can be used to get paid only once and expires in 60 seconds.
You, as a payee, have full control over the transaction because no physical contact is needed and no PIN is entered, thus reducing the risk of fraud.
It’s up to you to keep your device secure to prevent a possible financial loss.
How can I get my own QR code?
Just get the latest version of iCard here.
I mentioned this briefly above – you can use QR code payments with both iCard “Starter” and “Standard” accounts.
Тhe starter account is for trial purposes only and you have a limit on the transaction amounts.
To get fully verified you need to download iCard on either Android or iPhone and go through the 2-minute (on average) video chat with one of our friendly agents through the app.
Enjoy your new experience.
