What are the perfect Christmas gifts for every generation?

Kristiyan Valov Kristiyan Valov 10 December, 2020
Presents for Christmas

Do you have someone so important to you and whenever you look in his or her eyes, you see the night sky? Do you feel at home every time you hug him or her? If yes, then this person probably means the world to you and you know she or he deserves all the happiness during the holidays.

The smell of Christmas cookies is getting stronger every day, while the desire to warm our beloved ones is growing exponentially. A great sweater with polar bears, a digital frame with old memories or a “Home Alone” marathon with pyjamas on, the perfect Christmas gift might be hidden in the most unexpected places we could have imagined. We have shown you some of them in our last year’s Christmas article.

We can bet you have had at least one close person and no idea what to gift him or her for Christmas. How do we know? We’ve all been stuck in this situation where a pair of socks might not bring the biggest smile on the face.

How can we choose the perfect gift if we don’t know what to take?

This might be one of the most frequently asked questions during the holiday season. Answering might be harder than finding the Holy Grail, so our iCard team created a list which will help you to choose the most appropriate present for your loved one.

Since every generation has its beliefs and specific interests, we differentiated people into three categories, depending on their age – from 18 to 25 years old (Gen Z), from 26 to 40 years old (Millennials) and 40 years old and older (Gen X). The list includes up to three suggestions for each group plus one bonus, which you will be able to send for free until the 5th of January. (hint: it is related to eGiftCard’s virtual card 😉) Keep reading and you will find out more at the end of the article. Everyone will like it, no matter the age nor gender.

Young people

What to gift to someone under 25?

All young men and women born between 1995 and 2010 are part of the so-called Generation Z. They have grown up with the technologies, which has a huge impact on their behaviour, their interests and their understanding for a perfect gift.

For the youngsters, it is important to be financially free, to be always connected to the Internet and to always be informed about the latest trends. Gen Zs are very competitive and want to be on the top of the mountain as quickly as possible. You can learn more about Gen Z’s characteristics from here.

What could be the perfect gift for a Gen Z representative?

Following the shorten characteristic above, we created a list of three universal gifts every young man or woman would like.

Buying subscription.

1. A yearly subscription to an online platform

Since all young people are always connected to the Internet, one of the best gifts you can make is to support them by buying a subscription on their preferred platform. All you have to do is a little bit of talk and observe to see what this person likes.

If he or she is always with the headphones on – Spotify subscription should be your choice. If the laptop constantly plays different movies – get a Netflix account. Does your loved one have many different interests and talents – a SkillShare account will help him or her to improve all of them?

iCard’s team wants to remind you that shopping online might be a dangerous activity. Please, always use virtual cards when subscribing to a platform or purchasing products online. All subscriptions must be managed carefully. The possibility to freeze your virtual cards gives you the control you need on the Internet.

Girl on a vacation.

2. Gift them emotions and memories

The majority of young people under 25 want to create memories and share them with all their friends on social media. Following this, one of the best gifts might be the one where your valuable person experiences something unique. Is he or she an extreme sports fan? Take him or her to a bungee jump or on an off-road ride. Very few people can brag with a video jumping off a bridge. If extreme is not a good fit, a dinner, on you, would be a great alternative no matter the gender.

3. Smart accessories

If none of the ideas mentioned above fit your understanding for a great gift, a good smart accessory will surely be appreciated. Smart gadgets are here to make our life easier. Most of Gen Z’s representatives like taking care of their appearance. A smartwatch, smart ring, a pair of earbuds or even nice smart keychain might give this unique look all young people are looking for. The fancy feeling of just tapping and paying a bill is something everyone should experience. You can check our article dedicated to the NFC accessories for more ideas.

What to buy for my loved one? (26 – 40 years old)

Let’s assume that you are here to find a present for your better half or a sibling. If you or the person you are searching for a gift is part of the Millennials’ generation, then you might recognize some of the following characteristics.

The people born between 1981 and 1994 are part of Generation Y and are known to be the bridge between generations. They have grown up in the times where “smart” were only the living creatures, however, now are adults in the big digital world. Since they were not born with the technologies in their hands, some of the Millennials don’t feel the need to be constantly on their phones. The majority prefers face to face contact and outdoor activities with their friends.

However, Gen Y’s representatives still like spending time by themselves, accompanied by a great book or an old movie.

Young people playing board games.

1. Board games

Imagine this situation

You are at home after a long day. Some friends have joined you. Now you drink wine, listening to jazz with scented candles around. All of you are laughing and everything is perfect, until… The vibe suddenly disappears and you can’t stop wondering what happened.

The reasons behind this outcome might be few, however, most of them can be prevented by owning one specific item: a board game.

The board games are perfect gifts for somebody who is part of the Gen Y. This type of activity is engaging, includes friends and allows drinking wine, beer or other prefered beverages. All you need is a good atmosphere and a cosy place where to play.

A girl reading an e-book.

2. E-book reader

Although Millennials have grown up in the pre-high tech era, they are in touch with the latest digital trends. Now is the time to save space, time and money for your friend by giving him or her one specific gift – E-book reader.

Nowadays e-books readers are getting more popular because of their stylish designs, small sizes and huge possibilities of carrying +1,000 books in one hand.

3. Bottle of wine

It does not matter if the person you want to make happy is in his 20s or late 30s – everyone likes a good bottle of red wine. Most of the time this gift does not bring joy by consuming it but by having friends around that you can share it with. All the stories, all the memories and all happy faces can be brought up by just one bottle of wine – this is the real gift at the end of the night.

Two adults writing something.

What to give to our parents – Generation X?

Gen X’s representatives are all the people born between 1960 and 1980. Most of them are now parents or grandparents. They value the time with their families, appreciate the peace and quiet. We have been raised by those people and they deserve our respect and love.

What a better way to express your feelings than giving the perfect gift?

1. Digital frame

The majority of Gen Z indeed are not that familiar with the technologies. The biggest part’s best skill is knowing how to play games on their smartphones. What could be a better and simpler gift than one combining both worlds – digital and personal. Here comes at hand the digital frame.

The digital frame, for those who don’t know, allows us to upload photos and display them on its screen. This digital invention brings us together with our elders, even if we are not physically there.

Handmaking a gift.

2. Handmade gift

Is there a better gift than the one made with your hands and coming from your heart?

Write a song, create a mug, draw a painting or create a funny calendar with all your siblings. The only thing that might stop you from crafting the perfect gift is the lack of creativity or time. Grab a piece of paper and start sketching your gift.

You don’t have previous experiences in crafting items?

iCard got you covered! Here are some easy things you can make at home:

  • Does your mother love candles? Make her a personalized photo candle so you can always be around her.
  • Are you wondering what to gift to a passionate chef? Hand-stamped wooden utensils will look great in every kitchen
  • Is the person you are looking for a gift an organized adult that values his or her time? We would like to suggest a nice handmade photo calendar magnet. He or she will always be on track and will smile every time when sees the calendar.

BONUS: The most universal gift.

If you didn’t like any of our suggestions, we want to give you the most finished and universal gift that everyone will like – a GiftCard.

GiftCard is a plastic or a virtual prepaid Visa or Mastercard card in which you can deposit a certain amount of money. The recipient can use it whenever he or she wants and needs – to pay online, to buy food from the local store, to pay in a restaurant, etc. Another great option is to choose one of the 14 unique Christmas card designs or to create your unique design. By choosing a photo or selecting one of our ready-made designs, this present will make everyone’s day better.

What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookie is a small text file that a website saves on your computer or mobile device when you visit the site. It enables the website to remember your actions and preferences (such as login, language, font size and other display preferences) over a period of time, so you don’t have to keep re-entering them, whenever you come back to the site or browse from one page to another. Cookies are generated by the server of the visited website when the browser of your device loads it. The website sends information to the browser and creates a text file. Each time the user returns to the same website, the browser extracts this text file and sends it to the website’s server. The information that the cookie contains is specified by the server and may be used by the latter when the website is visited again by the user.
We use cookies to achieve different tasks such as like letting you navigate between pages efficiently and easily, remembering your preferences and generally improving your experience when browsing. We also use them to ensure that any ads you see on our websites or mobile apps and ads of other third-parties are more focused to you and your interests.
We also use similar technologies such as ‘pixel tags’ and ‘JavaScript’ to undertake these tasks. Pixel tags and JavaScript are tiny graphics files that contain a unique identifier that enable us to recognize when someone has our websites or mobile apps. This allows us, for example, to monitor the traffic patterns of users from one page within our websites or mobile apps to another, to provide or communicate with cookies, to understand whether you have come to our websites or mobile apps from via online advertisement displayed on a third-party website, to improve site performance.
If you visit our websites or mobile apps, we will deploy cookies and similar technologies to design an online service more suitable for your device, as well as to prevent and detect fraud. When you visit our website from any device we collect information about your use of the particular website, such as information about the device or browser you use to access the site (including device type, operating system, screen resolution, etc.), the way you interact with this site, and the IP address your device connects from. In many cases, the above said technologies are relying on cookies to function properly, and so declining cookies will impair their functioning, which means that you may not be able to exercise some activities within our secure online services unless these cookies or similar technologies are installed. Additionally, there might be a chance that we may not be able to process certain transactions if you are physically located in certain countries.
Cookies set by us are referred to as "first party cookies". Cookies deployed by parties other than us are called "third-party cookies". Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality to be displayed on or through the website/app. The parties that set these third-party cookies can recognize your computer both when it visits the website in question and also when it visits certain other websites.
We may not influence or control over third-party cookies. If you would like to find out more about the types of cookies which may be downloaded as a result, please visit the website of the third-party provider to do so.
